Challenge 1: the No-Death High Score Challenge
This is a challenge common to all SMB1 and SMB3 hacks. Start a new game, and try to get as many points as possible until you lose a life, or (less likely) get past all the hacked levels. The game stops once you die, no matter how many lives are left. Warp Zones are allowed, but Retro-Warp Zones (if there are) aren't. Good luck! Submissions will be ranked by top score. You can try more than once, of course. All your submitted results (NSMs you'll submit) will be put up, with the best on top and the others below, at the appropriate ranks (at least until there are too many ranks).

I tried some more, in an attempt to beat Frank's record, and this time I got to 3-4 and fell stupidly in a pit (damn!). I did a few little interesting tricks, mostly in 1-2.

He went through the first levels easily, scoring more points than me. "I died in 2-4 thanks to a speedy Spiney that unexpectedly slowed down."

I died in 2-4, I got through all previous levels easily enough.

Challenge 2: the Fastest Completion Challenge
This is a challenge common to most hacks, but mostly for the complete ones. In this one, try getting past all levels as fast as possible. You can lose as many lives as you want (just don't get Game Over), but not take Warp Zones. No need for a chronometer, I can calculate the exact length of the NSM by looking at its file size. Start the NSM recording right before starting the game, and stop it right after finishing. Good luck! Submissions will be ranked by top time. You can try more than once, of course. All your submitted results will be put up, with the best on top and the others below, at the appropriate ranks (at least until there are too many ranks).

Challenge 3: 1-X
Here's one specifically for Strange Mario Bros now. Start a new game, and try to get to 1-X. For this you have to not use any Warp Zone, and go to the fortress end in all x-4 levels. 1-X is the level right after the equivalent of 8-4, just try to get there! Beware, the game can occasionally stop at the end of a few castles, like in 1-8 and 1-C, which can become frustrating, but the challenge is still beatable.

Challenge 4: 3-3 Hammer Bros
Get through 3-3 with small Mario and avoid getting hit by the Hammer Bros. It isn't as easy as it seems, and you'll need a bit of luck to get through it.

I went through all of the level and almost didn't stop at all, I jumped through the hammer bros, getting close to die several times but still avoiding everything!

Challenge 5: 5-4 Hot Castle
Get through 5-4 with small Mario, don't take the top shortcut, and beat Bowser to the axe without getting hit once. 5-4 can be really hard, with all those cannon bullets and fire balls coming up all the time, as well as the omnipresent danger of falling into lava.

I avoided all the fire balls, avoided some bullets and jumping on others, and made sure I wouldn't fall into lava. This wasn't easy to do ...

Challenge 6: 6-2 No Pipe
6-2 is a pipe maze level, where you normally have to enter several pipes to get through the level. However, there is another way to get through the level, without going into any pipe, but also harder to do. Just beat 6-2 this way with small Mario!

You'll see me do precise and fast jumps on those 11 blocks to go past that level.

Challenge 7: 7-1 1UPs
Right at the start of 7-1, there are flying cheep-cheeps, and a green Koopa. Use the Koopa shell to make it bounce on the two cannons and hit some flying cheep-cheeps that come up, and try to get 1UPs! It isn't so easy, because you'll have to dodge quite a lot of flying cheep-cheeps and cannon bullets by the time you start getting 1UPs. Just try to get as many as possible!

There, I got the Koopa shell to hit enough cheep-cheeps and get a few 1UPs, until after a while where I fell and got hit by the shell while I was trying to avoid a flying cheep-cheep.

Challenge 8: 8-1 Long and Hard Level
8-1 is the longest, and probably also the hardest, of all the levels in Strange Mario Bros. Try getting through all of it with small Mario, and without entering the pipe!

This one was long and hard, I came close several times to get hit by a cheep-cheep, and I also had to make sure I wouldn't run out of time ...
